I have mixed feelings about this. One one hand, it reminds me of Lovecraft Country when Ruby went from a Black woman to a White woman because she knew she would have an easier life. The same concept is here with a Chinese-American teenager who wants to win prom queen. It’s also giving hints of The Substance (which was more about aging as a woman). On the other hand, I don’t like that this is a thing…but I understand that feeling unhappy about your image is a reality for many.
